The first half of the game was evenly matched as both sides failed to find the back of the net although Chelsea were more dominant on the ball. Chelsea broke the deadlock in the second half through Romelu Lukaku’s header after the Belgian connected sweetly with a cross from Hudson Odoi.
Palmeiras drew level only ten minutes later as Raphael Veiga converted from the penalty spot. The game would eventually head to extra time where Kai Havertz scored a late penalty in the 117th minute to hand his side the title.
